I started shooting when I was studying art in college and I picked it up again after moving to LA for the second time. I used to paint more, but I find the intimacy and adventure of photography a very appealing alternative. I broke my thumb on my right hand a few years back which resulted in arthritic cramping that still f*cks with me, so the camera continues to provide me with an artistic outlet in much the same way painting and drawing did.

LA photography is about color and fun and sex. There's a trashiness to it that I appreciate as something innately American. I'm from the east coast originally, land of sailboats, seagulls and alcoholism, but I grew up in Iowa, so I'm told I mumble now. I also developed a deep love of open spaces growing up in the midwest, which means I can't be in the city for too long at a stretch. Whenever possible I use photography as my excuse to go somewhere remote and lose myself.
